Website: http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/parks/Pages/cc-wetlands-park-homepage.aspx
When do we go?
January 4th, 6th, and 13th
Why do we go?
We go to the Wetlands Park to observe how Las Vegas engineers have slowed down the effects of weathering, erosion, and deposition due to flash floods.
What do we do?
Students will witness the effects desert flash flood on the desert environment and what engineers are doing to help slow it down. They will also see the different plants and animals that live in this unique habitat.
Do we need chaperones?
Yes! We will need four parent chaperones for each classroom. The teachers will do a random draw and send a note home if you are selected. Chaperones will be required to attend a Saturday morning training at the park prior to the field trip.

RED ROCK NATIONAL CONSERVATION AREA
Website: https://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/lvfo/blm_programs/blm_special_areas/red_rock_nca.html
When do we go?
March 24th, 29th, and 31st
Why do we go?
We go on a multisensory hike through The Discovery Children's trail to bridge the earth science concepts learned prior to the trip along with the life science concepts learned after the trip.
What do we do?
Students will use their senses to experience the Mojave Desert flora and fauna. They will be able to see the plant they researched in its natural environment, view the keystone thrust and create an edible model of it, and compare and contrast the desert floor with the higher canyon elevations. They will also realize the effects of weathering, erosion, and deposition; view a pictograph and paint their own; and taste the Nevada state tree.
Do we need chaperones?
Yes, we definitely need many parent field guides to give the students the best education and experience of the Mojave Desert possible! If you are interested in participating with this field trip, you MUST ATTEND the chaperone training date which starts at the Red Rock Visitor Center and continues on the trail. Please do not bring any children.
